    KiwiSaver Annual Report 2016

    We are required to report each year on our main KiwiSaver activities. This report covers the period from 1 July 2015 to 30 June 2016, and contains a summary of the statistical returns required to be lodged by KiwiSaver schemes as at 31 March 2016.

    Legislative notices supporting the FMC Act regime

    To support businesses implementing the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 (FMC Act), the FMA has been working, in consultation with the sector, on various legislative tools such as exemptions, frameworks, methodologies, public accountability notices, and designations (the FMA’s legislative tools). We have also been working with the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment (MBIE) on the amendments to the Financial Markets Conduct Regulations 2014 (FMC Regulations). These tools and regulatory amendments are designed to help businesses and individuals comply with the requirements of the FMC Act regime.

    This user guide is designed to help financial advisers to complete their annual AML/CFT report (annual report) quickly and easily. It clarifies the questions in the report template that may be open to interpretation and identifies questions that are unlikely to be relevant to small financial adviser businesses. It does not include the questions that don’t need explanation. This guide is current for 2016.

    NZX Obligations Review 2016

    Under the FMC Act, we are required to review at least annually how well a licensed market operator is meeting its obligations, and to publish a written report. Broadly, these relate to the areas of operation that are regulatory in nature. Publishing the report provides transparency into our oversight of NZX. This report was published in 2016.

    Factors influencing insurance policy survival

    In our study of what factors influence policy survival, we used the Cox proportional hazard model to identify key factors. We found that commission structure was consistently the most significant factor influencing policy survival rates and, within the commission structure, clawback was a major factor.
