    FMA confirms short-term derivatives to be licensed

    The Financial Markets Authority has today confirmed that businesses selling short-duration derivatives need to be licensed. The Financial Markets Conduct Act introduced licensing for derivatives issuers in December 2014.

    Exemptions grant temporary relief from some reporting deadlines

    FMA has granted two class exemption notices to provide market participants with an additional two months to provide their audited financial statements and comply with certain other regulatory requirements. Due to the disruption caused by COVID-19, the FMA is taking appropriate steps to provide regulatory relief.

    CBL Corporation and four independent directors ordered to pay penalties for conduct including reckless and careless breaches of the Financial Markets Conduct Act

    FMA survey: Investor confidence bounces back

    Major disruptions in world events over the last year have not dented New Zealanders’ confidence in financial markets. The FMA today released its annual survey into the public’s attitude to financial markets. The survey shows that confidence has risen significantly to 65% among all respondents, from 56% in 2016.

    Consultation paper: Review of the Small Co-operatives and Irrigation Companies Class Exemptions

    We are seeking feedback on two class exemption notices, being:
    the Financial Markets Conduct (Small Co-operatives) Exemption Notice 2021
    the Financial Markets Conduct (Irrigation Companies) Exemption Notice 2018.
    The notices provide small co-operative companies, industrial and provident societies, and irrigation companies with a lighter regulatory compliance pathway.
