    FMA publishes derivatives issuer Sector Risk Assessment

    A report identifying key risks in the Derivatives Issuer (DI) sector and highlighted future focus areas to improve sector compliance. Firms issuing derivatives to retail customers in New Zealand must be licensed by the FMA. The sector has approximately 23,000 accounts operated by retail customers.

    FMA has today welcomed the Commerce Commission's settlement with five companies in relation to the Commission's Credit SaILS investigation, which creates a settlement fund of $60 million to be distributed to investors who lost money when Credit SaILS failed in 2008.

    The FMA reports on its 12 month performance

    The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) has published its 2014 annual report for the year ended 30 June 2014. During this period the FMA began implementing the largest statutory change in financial services in 30 years. Engaging with the industry to implement the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013(FMC Act) was one of six major achievements outlined in the report, as the FMA continued to deliver its ongoing regulatory responsibilities.
