   Risk indicators and description of managed funds - guidance note

   This guidance is for managers and supervisors of managed funds. It gives guidance on how to calculate risk indicators, when to update a PDS, how to describe a fund’s volatility, and in certain cases how to name your fund.

   Consultation Fund update template and guidance for calculating risk indicators

   This paper is for market participants that manage funds and for their supervisors and investors. It explains how we propose to use two of the tools available to the FMA under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 (FMC Act) and the Financial Markets Conduct Regulations 2014 (Regulations) to support the new offers regime for managed funds. We are consulting on a proposed ‘frameworks or methodologies’ (FM) template for fund updates and new guidance for calculating risk indicators.

   This report contains findings from a qualitative study interviewing a range of New Zealanders about their experience with ethical* investments. It covers the underlying factors that drive people toward considering an ethical investment (KiwiSaver or managed fund) and their experiences of navigating the different providers and products on offer. It also provides detail on specific triggers and difficulties during people’s journey toward buying ethical investments. It covers the types of information people find most useful, challenges facing potential ethical investors, and factors providers should consider to improve people’s experience.
